An Informal Letter
What you'll do tonight
- Twenty minutes on the clock for one informal letter.
- Deliberate instruction: use at least five contractions and at least three phrasal verbs. This is not padding — it is the register the task requires, and it is what the examiner is looking for here.
- When you have finished, reread it and ask the honest question: would I actually send this to a friend? If it sounds like a business letter, rewrite the opening two sentences.
- AI feedback, then submit by email.
An informal letter does not end "Yours sincerely". Best wishes, Take care, See you soon, All the best, Love — any of those. This is the single most common slip in informal letters written by students who have just learned the formal rules.
A friend of yours stayed at your home for a week while you were away, and looked after it for you. Write a letter to your friend.
In your letter:
- thank them for what they did
- tell them about the trip you have just returned from
- invite them to do something with you soon
You do NOT need to write any addresses. Begin your letter Dear [name]. Write at least 150 words.

Two things: press Get AI Evaluation on each task so you can see your indicative bands, and then Submit by email so your teacher has the script. The AI does not replace your teacher — it just means you get a first read within a minute instead of within a week.
